The Arizona Peace Officers Certification Program
Reserve Police Academy
The Apache County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Diné College Tsaile, Arizona campus offers the 585 hour state approved training. Certified police instructors from both Apache County Sheriff's Office and the Navajo Nation Police present the lesson plan to become Arizona Certified Peace Officers. Additional Navajo Nation criminal and traffic laws are taught that allow for Navajo Nation Police Commission to be obtained.
The Arizona Peace Officers Certification Program is the result of the agreement between the Sheriffs Office and the Diné College Board of Regents. The Sheriffs Office and the College both agreed that the need for peace officers is great in Northeast Arizona that a certification program would be beneficial. The Sheriffs office provides the certified instructors that teach the curriculum and the college provides the facility.
Diné College is an Arizona State accredited institution of higher learning which allows it award college credit hours for this block of instruction. Approximately 30 college credit hours upon completion of the course. These credits are transferrable and allow for the completion of a degree in Administration of Justice. The Academy is 9 months and classes will be on weekends and some week nights.
Criminal justice continues to be a growth opportunity at this time, upon completion of the reserve program. Certified graduates can easily find employment as peace officers at Sheriffs offices, police agencies and highway patrol agencies in the state of Arizona. Course also includes Navajo Nation criminal and traffic law required for attaining Navajo Police Commission.
Qualifications:
- 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- Must pass Written Exam.
- Must pass Physical Agility Test.
- Must pass Medical and Psychological Exams.
- Must pass Background Investigation/Polygraph.
