Diné College Board of Regents Appoints Sen. Theresa Hatathlie as New Chair

TSAILE, AZ — The Diné College Board of Regents is pleased to announce the appointment of Theresa Hatathlie as the new Chair of the Board. This historic decision was reached during the annual board meeting held on October 4, 2023. Theresa Hatathlie brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to Diné College, which has been an integral part of her family’s history.
“We are thrilled to have Theresa Hatathlie as our new Chair of the Board of Regents,” said Dr. Charles “Monty” Roessel, President of Diné College. “Her family’s history with the college, combined with her impressive qualifications, makes her the perfect choice to lead us into the next chapter of Diné College’s journey.”
Theresa Hatathlie, a state Senator in the Arizona legislature and a member of the Navajo Nation, has dedicated her career to fostering the growth and development of education, particularly among indigenous communities. Notably, Ms. Hatathlie’s family history is closely intertwined with the institution she now leads. Her uncle, Dr. Ned Hatathlie, was the first Navajo president of Navajo Community College, which later evolved into Diné College. This connection underscores the deep-rooted commitment to the college’s mission and her dedication to preserving and enhancing its legacy.
“I am both honored and humbled to take on the role of Chair for the Diné College Board of Regents,” said Ms. Hatathlie. “The college plays a pivotal role in our community, and I am excited to work with my fellow regents, the faculty, and staff to ensure that Diné College continues to provide quality education and opportunities to our students.”
Ms. Hatathlie, in her role as state senator, was instrumental in securing $18 million dollars for new centers in Tuba City and Window Rock. The Board of Regents is confident that Ms. Hatathlie’s leadership will continue to further the college’s mission. The Board looks forward to working closely with Theresa Hatathlie as they collectively steer Diné College towards a bright and inclusive future.
