Diné College President Roessel elected to AAC&U board of directors

TSAILE, AZ — Dr. Charles Monty Roessel has been elected to the board of directors for the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Roessel, president of Diné College, is the only tribal college representative on this international organization that is dedicated to advancing the democratic purposes of higher education by promoting equity, innovation, and excellence in liberal education.
“I am honored to be selected to serve as a board member for AAC&U,” said Roessel. “Diné College, as the nation’s first tribal college has a unique voice and mission that can help lead higher education in these challenging times.”
AAC&U President Dr. Lynn Pasquerella, said “I’m so grateful to the extraordinary group of leaders who serve on the AAC&U Board of Directors. I look forward to working with this year’s board members as we begin pursuing the objectives outlined in our new 2023–27 strategic plan.”
Roessel has been the president of Diné College for the past 6 years. In those 6 years, the college has become a 4-year institution and this semester is seeing record enrollment with an increase of 29% and new academic programs addressing the needs of the Navajo Nation.
In addition to serving on the board, Roessel also serves on the editorial board for Liberal Education, the award-winning flagship quarterly of the AAC&U. Through programs and events, publications and research, public advocacy and campus-based projects, AAC&U serves as a catalyst and facilitator for innovations that improve educational quality and equity and that support the success of all students.
