Diné College a Finalist for Four Marketing and Public Relations Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 18, 2020

TSAILE, Ariz.— Competing against 148 eligible community colleges out of across five western U.S. states, and seven Commonwealths and Republics and the territory of Guam, the Diné College Marketing and Communications Department was informed this week that it is a finalist for four marketing and public relations awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR).

A formal announcement for first, second or third place winners will take place at the end of September. The categories in which the marketing and communications department is a finalist are: Brochure, Novelty Advertising, Special Event and Wild Card.

Diné College was the sole tribal college and one of four schools from Arizona selected for awards.

“We did well considering that we have a small advertising budget and we were up against much bigger schools,” college marketing and communications director George Joe said. “Some of the schools are twenty times larger than Diné College. The real challenge was that we were able to create, design and collaborate remotely during the past six months.”

The staff in the marketing and communications department consists of Joe, Public Relations Officer Bernie Dotson, Graphic Design and Digital Media Specialist Scott Tom and Marketing Assistant Jazzmine Martinez. George said each plays a pivotal role in daily marketing and communications operations.

The award competition includes Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Guam.

The NCMPR Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievement in design and communication at community and technical colleges in each of NCMPR’s seven districts. The regional competition is exclusive to marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.

“I’m proud of our marketing and communications team,” Marie Nez, vice president of external affairs at Diné College, said. The marketing and communications department is one of several overseen by Nez. “They have done a great job. The honor is well-deserved.”
