Northampton Community College Students Explore Culture at Diné College

October 15, 2013

Tsaile, AZ. - Students and faculty from Northampton Community College (NCC) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania are visiting the Navajo Nation. The intercultural exchange is a collaboration between Diné College and NCC. The fourteen students and Faculty are temporarily residing with participating community members in Tsaile. Students will be given the opportunity to explore the Navajo culture and sites on October 14-19, 2013. The experience for the Northampton College students and faculty is an ongoing intercultural exchange project made possible by Diné College instructor Dr. Miranda Haskie and NCC professor Donna Acerra. read more

Math Learning Center opened at Shiprock Diné College

October 2, 2013

Shiprock, NM - A new state of the art Math Learning Center was recently constructed at Diné College Shiprock North Campus and is now available for students to experience. Thirty-two computers were installed in a classroom to assist students with their self-paced learning of mathematics. This semester, students who are enrolled in the basic mathematics or math 096, will be utilizing the new facility. Directing the new classroom and its capabilities are the Math instructors at the Shiprock Campus, Dennis Price and Valiollah Manavi. read more

2013 Navajo Oral History Documentaries Premiered at Tsaile Campus

Tsaile, AZ - For the past five years Diné College students collaborated with journalism students from Winona State University to produce documentaries of Navajo elders. This year the group featured five Navajo elders who were influential in their roles as leaders and artists. Dr. Miranda Haskie of Diné College and Dr. Tom Grier of Winona State University organized the event the evening of Monday, September 16, 2013. Diné College President, Maggie George was impressed with this year’s project and the association between the two institutions. read more

Diné College Hires Former Chinle Cross-Country Coach Shaun Martin As Athletic Director

Tsaile, AZ - Diné College has hired former Chinle High School Cross Country Coach, Shaun Martin to lead its athletic department. On Monday September 16, 2013, the new Athletic Director was introduced in a press conference that was held at the Student Union Building here in Tsaile. Martin will begin his new position at the College which will include his role as the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams.. read more

Diné College Cross Country Start Season at George Kyte Invitational

Tsaile, AZ - Warrior Cross Country opened their season at the George Kyte Invitational in Flagstaff, AZ on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Diné College kept the pace by bringing home second place honors for the men’s team and third place for the women. Interim Coach, Abraham Bitok is confident the teams will be competitive this season due to the training and leadership of returning athletes. read more

Diné College and Navajo Nation Enterprises Begin Talks of Future Partnerships

Tsaile, AZ - Representatives from several Navajo Nation Enterprises were at Diné College on August 14, 2013 to discuss opportunities for students. Nathaniel Yazzie, CEO of the Navajo Nation Shopping Centers, Michelle Dotson, of Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise (NNGE), Tom Arviso Jr., CEO of the Navajo Times, and Dwight Largie from the Office Vice President of the Navajo Nation were in attendance for the roundtable discussion. Diné College department Chairs provided information of their departments and how their curriculum can align with job opportunities for students at the enterprises. The discussions led to the proposed Business Bachelor of Arts program at Diné College. read more

'Achieving the Dream' to help close Diné College Achievement Gap

Tsaile, AZ - Diné College brings in the Achieving the Dream organization to improve student success at each of their six campus locations. The College is one of two Tribal Colleges to be selected into the 13 College Achieving the Dream National Reform Network. Omero Suarez and Luzelma Canales, representatives from the Achieving the Dream Network were on campus in Tsaile to provide College staff and faculty with information about the network. The pair will be coaching Diné College team members through a series of initiatives that will enhance student success. Dine College President Maggie George is optimistic about the program and the benefits the College will receive. read more

Diné College Ganado and Kayenta Centers Officially Closed

Tsaile, AZ - The Board of Regents at Diné College approved a transition plan that will officially close the College’s Ganado and Kayenta centers. The Centers officially cease operations on August 9, 2013. As a result of Sequestration, coupled with declining enrollment at its Ganado and Kayenta Centers, Diné College like many higher education institutions has been financially impacted. read more

Summer Institute Increases Success for Freshmen at Diné College

Tsaile, AZ - The 2013 Summer Institute concluded another successful two-week intensive program for incoming freshman to the College. The 26 students who took part in the summer program celebrated their initiation on Friday, August 2. The students were given the opportunity to gain awareness of Diné College resources through seminars and workshops in the residential program sponsored by a Tittle III grant under the Student Services.. read more

2013 Navajo Language Academy held at Diné College Tsaile Campus

Tsaile, AZ - Navajo Language enthusiast and linguist from across the nation are at Diné College to learn and promote the Navajo language. The Academy will host at the Tsaile campus for two weeks beginning July 8th through July 26th. One of the main objectives for the Academy is to revitalize an interest for the Navajo language in the three week Navajo linguistic workshop. read more

Diné College Team Roper Myles John To Compete At 2013 CNFR

Tsaile AZ - College Rodeo has ended the regular season across the nation and many will be looking forward to the College National Finals Rodeo on June 9-15, 2013 in Casper Wyoming. Diné College Team Roper, Myles John, 19, and a freshman, will be competing at the annual event. Diné College Names New Archive Building After Founders of College

Tsaile - After much planning, partnerships and construction, the Diné College community officially named the new home of the College’s archives on May 9, 2013. The building is named the “Ruth and Bob Roessel Archival Center” in honor of the first president of Navajo Community College and his wife, who began the tribal College movement. The celebration began with a traditional Navajo blessing of the two new buildings, the Archival Center and the Student Success Center. read more
