A.A. Social and Behavioral Sciences

The Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) degree is an interdisciplinary, liberal arts program designed to introduce students to the foundations of human behavior and cultures. SBS disciplines include Anthropology, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. This program prepares students for transfer to a four-year degree program and provides basic training for work in social sciences.

PROGRAM MISSION

 

The mission of the Social and Behavioral Sciences is to enhance student application of social science principles to everyday life focusing on the needs of the Navajo Nation. This program encourages interdisciplinary study which prepares students for a wide variety of academic and professional endeavors while allowing for a smooth transition to four-year institutions of higher learning.

PROGRAM GOALS

 
  • Implement quality instruction that incorporates both Western and Diné cultural perspectives.
  • To graduate students who possess knowledge in multiple disciplines related to the Social and Behavioral Sciences.
  • To adequately prepare students for employment on the Navajo Nation and surrounding areas.
  • To prepare students for admission to 4-year universities.
