The Center for Diné Teacher Education is preparing future teachers continuously. Navajo language and culture is being taught to them. They will become respectful, effective teachers. The teachers will use Navajo teachings with all students. Their lessons will be based on Sá’ąh Naagháí Bik’eh Hózhóón. They will develop their students according to Navajo teachings and traditions.
PROGRAM GOALS
The teacher candidates will become respectful, effective teachers. They will use Navajo teachings with all students. Candidates’ lessons will be based on Są’ah Naagháí Bik’eh Hózhóón. The candidates will promote student learning according to Navajo cultural teachings.
Program Student Learning Objectives
- Demonstrates the concept of t’áá hó ájítéego. Candidates demonstrate the concept of t’áá hó ájítéego (punctuality, with-it-ness, and self-direction).
- Understand all students can learn. Our teacher candidates believe that all students can learn despite culture and learning styles.
- Possess pedagogical knowledge. Our teacher candidates possess instructional strategies that are beneficial for diverse, as well as Navajo, students.
- Demonstrates knowledge of K-12 subjects. Candidates demonstrate knowledge of K-12 subjects
- Practice K’é.

The Education program introduces teacher candidates to careers in K-12 teaching, and prepares them for successful participation in BA-level courses at Diné College and other colleges. Candidates develop a portfolio of learning projects that is presented to the College community at the conclusion of the program.
