Bachelor of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Multicultural Education (BAEMC) at Diné College is designed to equip future educators with the skills and knowledge to teach in diverse, culturally rich environments. The program emphasizes understanding and integrating multicultural perspectives into educational practices, ensuring that graduates are prepared to foster inclusive, equitable learning experiences for all students.

PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the Bachelor of Arts in Education is to prepare teacher candidates; and produce classroom teachers to be highly qualified to serve K-8 schools and communities through innovative multicultural/ bilingual/ multilingual teaching strategies and methods for diverse ethnic learners.
PROGRAM VISION
The Bachelor of Arts in Education envisions Teacher Candidates to become highly qualified to provide effective educational practices necessary for K-8 students in becoming college and career ready. Teacher Candidates will ensure a productive learning environment including collaboration with all stakeholders. To advocate for educational equity and merit for all scholars, regardless of ethnicity, and eliminate barriers to educational prospects and achievements for multicultural/bilingual/multilingual/multilingual students in a global society.
PROGRAM GOALS
Upon successful completion of the program, teacher candidate will receive a Bachelor of Arts in education with an emphasis in Multicultural Education. Having passed the licensure examinations, teacher candidate will be eligible for provisional K-8 teacher licensure. Teacher Candidate will also have met the requirements for a provisional endorsement in Bilingual Education depending upon the program of study.

The teacher education degree programs at Diné College are being expanded to meet the teacher shortage in New Mexico and produce more teachers in the state of New Mexico. The new Bachelor’s of Arts in Education degree (emphasis: Multi-cultural perspective) will be offered in Northwest region of New Mexico for teachers and students who are seeking teacher licensure, certification, and/or endorsement. The teacher education program includes a multicultural/bilingual/and multilingual emphasis, which is strongly needed in the state of New Mexico. Diné College teacher education programs are for all school systems with accredited status in the education system.Program Details:
Teacher candidates will be provided a curricula that includes culturally and linguistically relevant tools and are designed to ensure teacher candidates are supported by mentor teachers each semester. The Teacher Education program at Shiprock Branch will be a cohort model. Admission Requirements
- Completed online application for BA in Education: Multicultural Emphasis Program
- Completion of an Associate of Arts Degree in Education or Early Childhood preferred, but not required.
- Unofficial transcripts or copies of all college coursework. (Original transcripts will be required onceaccepted into the program).
- Current Navajo Nation and New Mexico background checks (as soon as possible)
- Fingerprint Clearance Card (as soon as possible)
- Cumulative G.P.A of 2.5 or higher at the junior level
NOTE: Applications from individuals who hold an A.A. in Education from another institution or from Diné College prior to Fall 2009, or an A.A. in a different academic specialization, are on a case-by-case basis. These individuals may need to take additional program courses.
Instructors
Bi-Lingual Education (BLE) Instructor Eligibility:
A New Mexico teacher desiring to apply as an adjunct instructor for the Northwest Teacher Education Program (NTEP) must meet the following crititeria:
- Candidate must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education, Multicultural Education, or similar area. Must be New Mexico Teacher certified, and/or Principal or Administrator certified in the state of New Mexico, and/or TESOL endorsed.
- Candidate must be approved as an adjunct instructor for Dine College by a department chairperson before the teacher begins instruction.
- Candidate must be willing to have his/her work reviewed by program. This review will include observation of the Bi-lingual Education (BLE) classroom, curriculum review, a sampling of their curriculum, and participation in the program assessment process.
