The Certificate in Public Health provides a basic set of courses that prepare the student for meaningful participation in public health programs and research projects, including employment in some of the public health services programs in the Navajo Nation.

PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the Diné College Public Health Certificate is to enrich the knowledge of Public Health practitioners on the Navajo Nation and to give them confidence in the workplace. In addition, the certificate provides evidence of competency in public health that contributes to professional accreditation and advancement. The certificate program also introduces public health processes that enhance health programming among the Diné people.
ABOUT THE PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAM
The Certificate in Public Health provides a basic set of courses that prepare students for meaningful participation in public health programs and research projects, including employment in some public health service programs on the Navajo Nation.
This certificate is jointly awarded by Dine College and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. Courses follow the Dine Education Philosophy and the cycle of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
NOTE: Students are not eligible for Title IV Financial Aid in this certificate program.
PROGRAM GOALS
- Enhance the knowledge and skills of the public health workforce on the Navajo Nation.
- Increase the health of the Dine people by developing a public health workforce that is competent in evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programming.
- Collaborate with Navajo Nation Department of Health programs and the University of Arizona to deliver training that meets workforce development needs.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
PSLO 1: Students will identify and describe factors that affect the health of communities on the Navajo Nation.
PSLO 2: Students will identify how the three core functions, ten essential services, and the Diné Educational Philosophy (DEP) are related and how DEP can be applied to a public health program.
PSLO 3: Students will identify vocabulary used by health professionals in health care services and public health programming.
