Diné College Celebrates Successful Summer Institute Program with Closing Banquet
1st August 2024
Tsaile, AZ – Diné College held a closing banquet for 23 students for the 2024 Summer Institute, organized by the Diné College First Year Experience and Student Affairs departments. The Summer Institute Program is designed to provide first-time college students with an early introduction to college life, allowing them to experience the academic and social aspects of higher education.
The program, which spanned five weeks, offered students the chance to live in the dorms, familiarize themselves with the campus layout, and learn about the resources available to them. Out of the 23 participants, 22 will be returning to Diné College for the Fall semester. The students completed two classes: English 101, taught by Dr. Kwon, and Navajo 101, taught by Professor Roger Benally. At the banquet, each student received a certificate of completion in recognition of their hard work and dedication throughout the summer.
"I am very excited for our Summer Institute students for passing their summer semester and continuing in the fall", said Trisha Roy, First Year Experience Specialist, Diné College. "We have one student who will be transferring to the University of Arizona, and we are excited to have 22 students return to us in the fall semester. We hope to assist them and guide them on their educational journey."
The program was not just about academics. Students also had the opportunity to participate in various events and trips, including camping and river rafting, which enriched their overall experience. Diné College extends its gratitude to all departments that contributed to making the Summer Institute a success for these students.
