MANY FARMS, Ariz. Many Farms High School, in partnership with Diné College, celebrated the accomplishments of its Dual Credit Program students during an Academic Achievement Awards ceremony held at the school’s cafeteria last evening. The event honored students who successfully balanced high school courses, college-level work, and extracurricular commitments to earn college credits before graduation.

Louise Donald, principal of Many Farms High School, delivered a heartfelt welcome address, praising the students’ perseverance and dedication. “Not only are our students managing their high school and college courses, but many are also leaders in clubs, athletics, and student government. Tonight, we celebrate their hard work and achievements,” Donald said. The evening also marked recognition for the largest group of dual enrollment students in the school’s history.

The Dual Credit Program, offered in collaboration with Diné College, allows high school students to earn college credits in subjects ranging from Navajo Language to mathematics and English. Courses are aligned with Diné College curricula, ensuring students receive transferrable college credits upon successful completion. Many of these courses are taught either on-site at Many Farms High School or Diné College campuses.

The keynote speaker, Delaney LeBeau, a Dual Credit Student, shared reflective and inspiring words about the collective experience of dual enrollment students, many of whom have grown together as friends and peers. “We took on this challenge to better ourselves, and these achievements will take us farther in life,” Delaney LeBeau said. She acknowledged the teachers, families, and classmates who supported the students in reaching their goals.

Virginia Jones, a Navajo as a Second Language teacher, highlighted the cultural significance of the program. “For me, teaching Navajo as a second language is about more than just academics. It’s about preserving our culture and giving students a sense of pride in their heritage. I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished and the effort they’ve put into learning and growing,” Jones said.

Teachers also emphasized the significance of this milestone for students’ academic and personal growth. Daniel Smith, an instructor of Intro to Sociology, praised his students’ commitment. “It’s not just about grades; it’s about how much growth these students achieve and their ability to prepare for an independent and successful future,” Smith said.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of two distinguished students. Aden Harvey was commended for earning the highest number of Diné College credits while balancing extracurricular activities. “Aden has shown exceptional independence and perseverance,” Principal Donald said. Another honoree, Deeliah Harvey, completed her Public Health Certificate with honors and will graduate from Diné College next week at its Shiprock Campus.

Dual Credit Director Francetta Begaye closed the ceremony by thanking parents, faculty, and the wider school community for their support. “Taking dual credit courses is not easy; students must balance high school, college, and personal responsibilities. Tonight, we recognize their effort, dedication, and readiness for the next step in their academic journeys,” she said.

The collaboration between Diné College and Many Farms High School continues to provide students with opportunities to get a head start on their higher education, setting them on a path toward future success.
