Kirsten Parrish: A Dual Credit Student’s Inspiring Journey
Kirsten Parrish, a Many Farms High School graduate and dual credit student at Diné College, embodies determination and resilience. Her journey reflects both educational commitment and family values.
Kirsten first discovered the dual credit program through a close relative, who encouraged her to join. “My grandparents always told me, ‘Education is the strongest weapon you can have,’ and that inspired me to push forward,” Kirsten shared. Balancing high school, dual credit courses, and extracurriculars like art club and student council, she embraced every challenge.
Summers were no break for Kirsten. She participated in the Upward Bound Math and Science program at Northern Arizona University, where she studied advanced subjects, including statistics and coding. “It was tough, but it taught me how to manage my time and handle a heavy workload,” she said.
Building on her summer experiences, Kirsten graduated in 2024 and immediately enrolled in college courses, earning top grades and a spot on the President’s List. Her determination led her to the prestigious Exploring Transfer Program in New York. “I doubted myself at first, but when I got accepted, I realized I was capable of so much more,” she recalled.
The program’s rigorous schedule pushed her limits, but she thrived, gaining confidence and new skills. Central to Kirsten’s journey is her Navajo culture. She said, “My grandparents taught me to never give up, even when it’s hard. They always said, ‘You belong in every classroom you step into.’”Now, as she works toward her associate degree and aims for a bachelor’s in biomedical sciences, Kirsten encourages others: “No matter your background, you can achieve your dreams. Your education is yours—no one can take it away.”
