Diné College Hosts Cultural Arts Workshop to Promote Student Wellness and Traditional Skills

TSAILE, Ariz. Feb. 10, 2026 – Diné College hosted an engaging cultural arts workshop, led by instructor Venancio Aragón, in collaboration with Cina Curly from the Student Wellness Center. The event aimed to inspire students to explore traditional Navajo arts while promoting wellness and community engagement.

The workshop featured a spinning demonstration and hands-on activities designed to immerse students in the art of Navajo weaving. Aaron Begay, the college’s Navajo sash belt weaving instructor, showcased his loom and shared insights into the rich history and cultural significance of weaving. Meanwhile, Aragón conducted a hand-spinning demo, teaching students how to card and spin wool using Navajo spindles.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity to connect students with our cultural arts program and highlight the importance of traditional skills in supporting and promoting wellness and creativity,” said Aragón, Cultural Arts Instructor at Diné College. “We hope to inspire more students to explore these courses and gain a deeper appreciation for our heritage.”

The workshop also served as a platform to promote the college’s cultural arts curriculum. Students interested in learning more about these programs are encouraged to explore the course catalog or contact Mr. Aragón directly at varagon@dinecollege.edu. Additionally, Diné College students are welcome to drop into ongoing classes to experience the curriculum firsthand.

“This collaboration with the Student Wellness Center is just the beginning,” added Aragón. “We’re committed to creating more opportunities for students to engage with our cultural arts programs and discover the skills and knowledge that are deeply rooted in our traditions.”
