Diné College Inspires Students at Western Navajo Nation Kids Day
TUBA CITY, Ariz. – Diné College took part in the Western Navajo Nation Kids Day on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Tuba City Fairgrounds. The event brought together students, families, and schools to learn more about education, culture, and community.
Diné College shared hands-on activities and information about college programs that help students reach their goals. Staff from several departments joined the event, including Tsaile Outreach and Recruitment, STEM, CONVOY program, Dual Credit, and the Diné College Land Grant Office.
Students took part in science and technology demonstrations from the CONVOY program and Masters program. High school students learned about earning college credit through the Dual Credit Program, and connected with staff from the Diné College Tuba City Center who support local students and families. The Diné College Land Grant Office provided demonstrations on various ways to grind corn.
“These students completed their front individual projects that they are presenting today, so the people around the community can understand what they were doing this summer and fall and how they were able to achieve their goals in terms of learning especially in the biomedical sciences and STEM,” said Dr. Shazia Tabassum Hakim, professor of Biomedical Science and Chair of Life Sciences Programs at Diné College. “As long as we are here we are able to promote what type of facilities we have available at the Diné College campuses.”
Lyssa Nuvayestewa, Diné College Tuba City Program Coordinator, shared, “It is always exciting to meet students from our community. We hope they see Diné College as a place that will support their dreams and encourage them to continue their education close to home.”
The Western Navajo Nation Kids Day gave Diné College the chance to connect with the community and encourage youth to think about their future in higher education.
