DINÉ COLLEGE ALUMNI HIGHLIGHT
Venancio Aragón is a distinguished Diné textile artist and educator. He holds degrees in Cultural Anthropology from the University of New Mexico and Native American & Indigenous Studies from Fort Lewis College. In 2020, Aragón was awarded the Rollin and Mary Ella King Native Artist Fellowship at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he focused on documenting and recreating lesser-known Diné weaving techniques.
His textile works have been widely exhibited and featured in various films and publications. Based in Farmington, New Mexico, Aragón maintains an active studio practice and will serve as the Navajo Weaving/Textile Design faculty within the Navajo Cultural Arts Program at Diné College. He is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in education at Fort Lewis College.
I am pleased to have the opportunity to offer courses at the Tsaile campus this Fall. As an educator, I place significant value on education and the cultural arts. I have observed my students make meaningful progress as they reclaim and revitalize their textile arts traditions. I have confidence in the next generation and consider it a privilege to support them in their future pursuits.
