NDN Girls Book Club Donates Books Written by Native Authors to Diné College Window Rock Center for Valentine’s Week Kick-off Event
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz., Feb. 9, 2026 – NDN Girls Book Club donated free books to the Diné College Window Rock Center for a Valentine’s themed book drive. Students and local readers were invited to stop by the Window Rock Center to pick up a free book and connect with college staff and other bookworms over complimentary snacks and refreshments.
Since last November, Helena Austin, Window Rock Learning Center Coordinator, has been working with the women-led nonprofit, NDN Girls Book Club, to deliver free books to local Diné College scholars and patrons among the Navajo Nation’s capital.
With 45 books donated, Austin left visitors with new books written primarily by Native authors and introduced guests to the Diné College Window Rock Center campus and facility—a space for learning and educational resources for current DC Warriors and prospective students.
“Hosting this ‘Blind Date with a Book’ event was incredibly meaningful because of the close partnership with NDN Girls Book Club, whose commitment to uplifting Indigenous voices made this possible,” Helena stated, “This event is about more than books—it’s about access, representation, and creating spaces where our community can see themselves reflected in stories.”
The event drew a diverse crowd of literary scholars and promoted readership through free enticing Indigenous-centered novels, community, and support from the notable Indigenous nonprofit.
