Tsaile, Ariz., July 31, 2025. Diné College successfully launched its Summer Institute 2025 program, designed to prepare Arizona high school seniors for the challenges of college life. From June 23 to July 28, the six-week on-campus program provided participants with vital academic and personal development tools, including a foundational Math 100 course and time management training. Applications for the program, open to Arizona high school seniors from the class of 2025, closed on June 13, 2025.
The Summer Institute, organized by Diné College’s Student Affairs department, aimed to strengthen participants’ college readiness through an immersive, supportive environment. Key highlights included on-campus room and board, workshops on academic resources, and mentorship from current Diné College students. The program also facilitated community-building experiences to ease students’ transitions to higher education.
“Our goal was to help students feel confident and fully prepared for the college experience,” said Trisha Roy, First Year Experience Specialist at Diné College. “By participating in the Math 100 course and learning essential skills such as time management and online navigation, students received a valuable head start for their college journeys. It was inspiring to see their transformation from shy, unsure individuals to outspoken and motivated learners.”
An essential component of the program’s success was the support provided by the Student Affairs staff, mentors, and tutors. Participants had access to peer leaders who guided them through academic challenges and introduced them to campus life.
“The transition from high school to college can be daunting,” said Kiyanna Honani, Student Support Specialist. “By the end of the program, students expressed greater confidence in their academic abilities and felt better equipped to face the demands of college. They also formed lasting relationships with faculty and peers, ensuring they have a support system moving forward.”
Student feedback highlighted the program’s impact on their personal and academic growth. Many participants shared their excitement about returning to Diné College for the fall semester, while others expressed confidence as they prepared to begin their studies at universities across the country.
The Summer Institute also incorporated extracurricular activities to balance academic rigor with personal development. Students participated in team-building events, such as group outings and campus tours at nearby institutions, broadening their perspectives on higher education opportunities.
The success of this program was made possible by the collaboration of various Diné College departments, including Residence Life, Financial Aid, campus security, and cafeteria staff. “It takes a community effort to make a program like this thrive. We’re incredibly grateful to all who contributed,” Roy added.
For Arizona high school seniors seeking a college readiness program that promotes academic growth and personal transformation, Diné College’s Summer Institute is an outstanding opportunity.
