Diné College Celebrates Employee Dedication and Service at Recognition Event

Farmington, NM – Diné College celebrated the dedication and hard work of its exceptional employees at the Farmington Courtyard Marriott’s Conference Center. The Employee Recognition Event, held on May 2, 2024, was organized by the Diné College Human Resource Department, brought together staff, faculty, and administrators to acknowledge their outstanding contributions to the college community.
In reflecting on the event, President Dr. Charles “Monty” Roessel, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Our employees are the backbone of Diné College, and their dedication fuels our mission of academic excellence and community empowerment. This event serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment.”
Similarly, Dr. Perphelia Fowler, HR Director, Diné College, emphasized the significance of recognizing employee milestones, stating, “Employee recognition is more than just acknowledging years of service; it’s about honoring the hard work, dedication, and loyalty that our staff and faculty bring to Diné College every day.”
Provost Dr. Alysa Landry echoed these sentiments, stating, “The longevity of service showcased at this event is a testament to the strength of our community and the enduring impact of Diné College on generations of students and families.”
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the honoring of Dr. Herman Cody, a distinguished faculty member in the Education Program, who was awarded a Pendleton blanket in recognition of his retirement. Dr. Cody’s impact on countless students and colleagues over the years has been profound and enduring.
Employees were celebrated in five-year increments, highlighting their enduring service to the college community. Awards were presented to those marking milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and an extraordinary staff member who achieved an astounding 50 years of service. In addition, special recognition was bestowed upon custodial and maintenance teams, recognizing their vital contributions to the college environment.
The event featured a motivational address from Jalen Smallcanyon, President of the Associated Students of Diné College (ASDC), who inspired attendees with words of encouragement and empowerment. Guest entertainment was provided by Mr. Navajo, Zacariah, who shared Navajo social songs and further uplifted the celebratory atmosphere.
The Employee Recognition Event was a resounding success, celebrating the rich tapestry of talent and dedication that defines Diné College. As the institution looks to the future, it does so with a deep sense of appreciation for its exceptional staff and faculty members.
