Diné College Sponsors Fruit Scramble at “Checkerboard” Indian Junior Rodeo Association Event in Crownpoint, NM
24th June 2024
Crownpoint, NM – Today, Diné College proudly announced its sponsorship of the “Checkerboard” Indian Junior Rodeo Association (IJRA) event, supporting its commitment to enriching the lives of youth through the sport of rodeo. The Diné College External Campus at Crownpoint site provided essential items for the “Fruits Scramble” event, held during the rodeo’s intermission.
“The IJRA alumni have done an outstanding job in being active with support at all levels,” said Tyrel Pablo, IJRA Rodeo host and recent Public Health graduate from Diné College. “The main event went smoothly, thanks to the help from all the sponsors. We provided a safe and positive environment and received a lot of positive feedback.”
Pablo highlighted the significance of Diné College’s contribution, especially for a community situated in a food desert. “Thank you to Diné College. It is hard to get fruits and essential food here, so Diné College stepped up to give back to the youth. The fruits were shared abundantly, which really helped the community, especially coming from a public health perspective.”
The rodeo offered young participants unique opportunities to work with animals, fostering a sense of responsibility and involvement. This aspect of the sport highlights the substantial generational support system within the IJRA, where families actively support each other.
