Diné College Welcomes Frankie Burbank as New Residence Life Assistant
TSAILE, Ariz. Diné College is proud to announce the appointment of Frankie Burbank as the new Residence Life Assistant. In his role, Burbank will focus on organizing activities and events for students and family housing residents, fostering a sense of community and support on campus.
“I’m excited to be back at Diné College, where I first began my academic journey,” Burbank said. “As a former student, I understand how important it is to feel connected and supported, especially when you’re far from home. My goal is to create opportunities for students to engage, stay grounded, and maintain a positive outlook during their time here.”
Burbank graduated from Diné College with an AA in Liberal Arts. He later attended and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, Oklahoma, earning a BA in Criminal Justice, but moved back to help his family. His return to the college as an employee has been a nostalgic and meaningful experience. “Walking back onto campus after years away brought back a strong sense of community and belonging,” he said. “The environment, the language, and seeing other Native students—it all feels like home.”
In his new position, Burbank will gather feedback from students through surveys to tailor events and activities that meet their needs. He emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, particularly for students who may feel homesick or overwhelmed. “Having a physical presence on campus is crucial,” Burbank explained. “It’s important for students to know that staff are here to help, whether it’s through events, emails, or just being available to answer questions.”
Burbank also highlighted the unique dynamics of Diné College’s student body, which includes a mix of traditional and nontraditional students. “I see a lot of focus and determination in our students,” he said. “Even though they’re here for their individual goals, there’s a strong sense of community among them. It’s inspiring to witness.”
As the Residence Life Assistant, Burbank aims to be a mentor and resource for students, ensuring they feel supported both academically and personally. “I want students to know that they’re not alone,” he said. “We’re here to improve their experience and help them succeed.”
Currently, Burbank’s office is temporarily located in the family housing unit area, but it will soon move back to Spruce Hall, the original residence life office. “It’s exciting to return to the same space where I once sought guidance as a student,” he noted.
Diné College is pleased to have Burbank on board and looks forward to the positive impact he will bring to the campus community.
